Bodywork philosophy

The human body is clearly a wonderful machine and it is equipped to self-heal and self-restore. Through treatment solutions such as NST and Emmett, these capabilities are thoroughly accessed and activated.  Good bodywork isn't about how hard the therapist moves through soft tissue, it is the final result that is the deciding factor of a good treatment and therapist.

Hi, my name is Tracey and I am a soft tissue therapist who is  passionate about helping people feel better, whether it be structural or hormonal problems, I am the woman for the job!

I do not find it acceptable that people are told to put up with pain.  We all have the right to be pain free, and I do my best to help everyone that comes through my door.  I listen, question and design a treatment plan for each individual based on their health concerns.  I constantly research ways to help my clients and keep my own knowledge current by reading and completing training courses.

Interests

Due to my eldest daughter's reactions to processed foods, our family eats primarily a Low Carb, High Fat (LCHF) way of eating.

I having been intermittently fasting since September 2017, for added health benefits.

I am fascinated by how our bodies operate and what happens biochemically when we eat.

History

You know how the saying goes - 'follow your nose'.  Well, after completing a Aromatherapy massage course with my beautician in Darwin, I became very interested in natural health.  So, shortly after moving to Brisbane in 1995, I began looking at enrolling in a natural therapy course that included subjects such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, and of course sports massage (remedial therapy).  This filled my weekends quite nicely!  Unfortunately, I did not follow through with my newly acquired skills after coming to the realization that I wasn't allowed to practice from my rental house and that massage therapists get paid very poorly.  I was not confident enough to leave the safety of my well paid IT government job at the time.

Fast forward 12 months or more and I was yearning to study something, and I liked animals, so I left my government job, and enrolled in a Bachelor of Applied Science with the University of Queensland, majoring in reproduction and finished this in 2004.  In 2005, I gained employment in the area of reporduction in Rockhampton, with the QLD government and, after injuring my neck at work (bulging discs), I tried a few different physio's with no success.  I found a Bowen therapist in Yeppoon that managed to get me back on track, and kept seeing her as my therapist for the next 5 years.  She offered me a job as a massage therapist in her dayspa in 2010, with the promise of learning her 'Bowen' technique.  Unfortunately she was a very busy therapist, and did not manage to get around to training me.

I left when I became too big with my pregnancy of my second child (tummy bumping clients heads is not a very relaxing treatment!), and did some administrative work for the School of Nursing (CQU) for a couple of years.  Then, one day in August 2012, I was driving past this little building and saw a 'shop for rent' sign, and I with the blessing of hubby, took the plunge and opened my own massage clinic.

I always wanted to learn my old bosses 'Bowen' technique and happened to come across what I thought was her technique being demonstrated on YouTube one day.  I eagerly enrolled in a Introduction to the Neurostructural Integration Technique (NST) in March 2013, and after completing it, was found out that there are 15 different types of Bowen therapy out there!  My old boss actually was a Myopractic Bowen therapist, however my instructor in this technique assured me that he had studied all 15 forms of Bowen (a bit of a training junkie!) and NST blows them all away.

In May of 2014, I secured a room within Crossfit CQ, in which to operate my clinic in Rockhampton.  I spent 8 months there helping athletes and everyday people.  I also attended two sporting events called 'the Elite Crossfit Games' as a massage therapist during this time (that's me working at the Games in the photo above!)

I have added another technique to my toolbox, called Emmett Technique in 2014 and moved to Brisbane at the end of that year.
